Ski Team

I am a Snowboarder, is this the right club for me?

No sorry, we only accept skiers. As we are a sport club, not simply a snowsport club, our main focus is to develop a race team and represent WSU in the Northwest Region, not simply create a fellowship of snow lovers (though we are that as well). If you are interested in joining an unnofficial group/ride share, check facebook for "WSU Schweitzer Mt. Skiers and Boarders."

Do I need racing experience to join the team?

No. Many of our members had never run through gates before joining the WSU Ski Team. In order to be competitive however, immense skiing experience is highly recommended.

Do I need to have my own equipment?

Yes. The team has accumulated some extra guards and helmets over the years, however skis, poles and boots are up to each athlete. We do have ways of finding affordable gear if needed.

How much does it cost to join?

Yes. Members are required to pay dues ($300 for a week long training camp roughly), USCSA dues ($15), and race team dues (~$300). Dues help to pay for lift tickets, transportation, housing, and league dues. Of course, the number fluctuates a little depending on the places where each race takes place.

How big of a time commitment is Ski Team?

In the fall the team meets twice a week for mandatory hour long practices. It is also required that you put in a significant amount of fundraising time, and the total amount of time is dependent on the number of fundraisers. However, the more time the team puts in, the more money we raise and the cheaper it is!

In the spring we have a week long training camp, which is mandatory for anyone who would like to race. Then we will be racing and/or training every weekend from January through February. If you are lucky, you will make the Region Championship team and will also spend another week racing at the end of February. We also hold one dry-land practice a week.

How does your team acquire funds?

The WSU Ski Team is funded through University Recreation. Also by extensive fundraising and some generous donations. The more fundraising that is done by the team, the cheaper race team dues are!

Where do we ski?

Our home mountain is Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, Idaho. However, every weekend/race is at a different location, usually throughout the Pacific Northwest.

I have paid my fall dues for Training Camp but no longer can go, will I be refunded?

The answer will depend on how close training camp is, whether the reason of your mind change is due to an emergency or recent injury, and if housing/lift tickets/transportation has already been paid for and you cannot be replaced by another skier. Generally, we try to work with you as we are all poor college students, however the officers must keep in mind the best interests of the Ski Team as a whole. Official due dates for dues and refunds will be posted on the site in the Fall.
